The YWCA York is proud to announce that this year’s Grand Marshall is Sue Schmidt. Sue jumpstarted the Girls on the Run program at YWCA York – a program for pre-teen girls that boosts the confidence of girls through running activities. Sue herself is an exercise enthusiast – accomplishing feats like climbing to the base camp of Mount Everest, cross-country skiing to the North Pole, and cycling from Washington D.C. to Seattle. Not even a cancer diagnosis at age 60 could stop her. Sue’s determination and passion for fitness make her a true picture of health.
This year, a pre-parade event will also take place—the 1st Annual YWCA Pumpkin Run—a one-mile run on the parade route! The event will be complete with costume contests for the runners and a timed race at 1:45 p.m. Another new addition to the parade this year is also the “YWCA York Distinguished Clown Corps,” where executives pay to participate, dress up as a clown, and are judged by kids from the YWCA York childcare programs. More details can be found online at www.ywcayork.org. Lastly, Halloween Parade souvenir cups, will be sold at local businesses during the month of October. A list of participating businesses will be on the YWCA website by late September.
Entries will be accepted until September 24, and vendor forms are available until October 5. After those dates, late fees will be charged, and entry into the parade not guaranteed. Forms are available online at www.ywcayork.org. If you would like to volunteer or learn more about entering the parade and other opportunities, please call the YWCA at 717-845-2631 or visit YWCA York online at www.ywcayork.org.
