Maytown Winter Festival
The Maytown Historical Society is planning our third "Maytown Winter Festival" to be held on Saturday December 14, 2013 from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Vendors will be located outdoors in the historic Town Square and along High Street. Shop for gifts galore and plenty of food. Enjoy a town crier, carolers singing in the square, a Belsnickel (old German style Santa), plus another traditional "Santa" located inside the beautiful decorated town square. Musicians and instruments will be playing Christmas carols all afternoon on the square and around town. Once again, one can follow the tempting scent of freshly baked - cookies to the now famous "The Sisters Bake Shoppe", where a variety of delicious goods - including apple dumplings-- will be sold in their lovely Victorian home. There will be food vendors for light fare. However, if the cold bites at you, stop by the "Royal George Inn", where you can enjoy a variety of desserts and beverages. It will be a wonderful way to get warm and enjoy the atmosphere in a 1790 stone home located on the square. For those who would enjoy a bit of Maytown history, visit the Maytown/East Donegal Museum, look at a great display and read the history of one of Maytown's own, Simon Cameron. The beautiful churches of Maytown will be providing entertainment throughout the day. In addition, The Maytown Historical Society presents a "WINTER FESTIVAL OPEN HOUSE" held on Saturday from 11AM to 5PM featuring six homes. Tickets for this event are $8.00 in advance or $10.00 day of tour. Advanced tickets can be purchased by calling (717) 426-2786. On the day of the tour, tickets may be purchased at the Maytown/East Donegal Museum. A special addition to the Open House will be Dolores Hackenberger, lovingly referred to as the "Grandma Moses of the Pennsylvania Dutch Country". She will be demonstrating her painting in one of the homes featured on the house tour. Please visit www.maytownhistory.org for additional information and tour updates. Sponsors of this year's Festival and House Tour include: Engle Printing and Publishing, Longwood Manor, Donegal Insurance Group, Union Community Bank and several sponsors who wish to remain anonymous. "THANK YOU" So travel back in time to a magical place called "Maytown" to get caught-up in the Yule-tide spirit!
