Harrisburg, Pa. (July 21, 2025) — UPMC Memorial has received accreditation under the American College of Surgeons (ACS) National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The designation signifies the hospital’s commitment to quality care for breast cancer patients.
“NAPBC accreditation reflects a standard of care on par with the nation’s leading breast centers,” said
KimberLee Mudge, M.D., co-director, UPMC Memorial Breast Care Center. “At UPMC Memorial, our team is united around a shared commitment to delivering personalized, high-quality care to every patient we serve. We may be a smaller center, but our strength lies in the close-knit, compassionate attention our patients know and trust.”
Breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women in the United States. Programs accredited by the NAPBC meet high standards across the spectrum of a patient’s journey with breast cancer or breast disease including prevention, screening, treatment, and survivorship.
“This milestone is a reflection of the purpose that drives us,” said Christy Frederick, B.S.N., R.N., co-director, UPMC Memorial Breast Care Center. “It highlights the unwavering dedication and strong collaboration of our entire breast care team.”
As an NAPBC-accredited institution, UPMC Memorial also becomes an
ACS Surgical Quality Partner. Being a Surgical Quality Partner signifies an institution's dedication to consistently improving procedures and approaches, while maintaining a critical eye on processes at every step. Patients can trust that the care they receive at Surgical Quality Partner hospitals adheres to the most rigorous standards in surgical quality. UPMC Memorial joins four other UPMC locations in central Pennsylvania to receive this prestigious designation.
“Our staff’s relentless pursuit of quality, combined with the resources and expertise of UPMC Magee-Womens, UPMC Hillman Cancer Center, and our primary care, imaging and plastic surgery teams, means our community can trust us to deliver outstanding breast cancer treatment and breast care,” said Michelle Del Pizzo, president, UPMC Memorial. “This accreditation is evidence that we are among the nation’s most elite programs.”
